LOS ANGELES—More incredible talent have been added to the star-powered roster for the 2014 NCLR ALMA Awards. The National Hispanic Heritage Month event—a live telecast on MSNBC and mun2—celebrates America’s favorite Latinos in the entertainment industry, television, film and music. New announcements include:

CAFÉ TACVBA will be the featured performance in the live show broadcast. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the legendary Mexico City-based quartet that has been widely hailed as the world’s most influential Latin alternative band. Comprised of Rubén Albarrán, Emmanuel “Meme” del Real, José “Joselo” Rangel and Enrique “Quique” Rangel, the group’s distinctive approach to music as true art grows out of a unique fusion of their Mexican culture with elements of always-evolving progressive rock and other global influences.

After forming in Mexico City, Café Tacvba quickly won over fans nationwide with their self-titled debut album. That devoted following quickly expanded across all of Latin America and the United States with the release of their now iconic 1994 album “Re,” which “Rolling Stone” has called “the greatest Latin Rock album of all-time.” For an unrivaled 25-year career as leaders of their genre, NCLR will also mark their special anniversary with the presentation of the NCLR ALMA de Tú Mundo Award during the NCLR ALMA Awards Pre-Show, livestreamed on Telemundo.com.

Award for Outstanding Service to Cause and Community: TONY GONZALEZ
Popular NFL analyst and record-holding athlete Tony Gonzalez (Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons) will be recognized for distinction in service, where he matches his on-field talents with an equal passion for community service. Gonzalez supports the Shadow Buddies Foundation, an organization that provides emotional support through education to hospitalized children, and El Viento Foundation, an institute that enriches the lives of children and young adults through long-term relationships based upon trust, respect, learning and skill building.

NCLR ALMA Vanguard Award: DAISY FUENTES
A pioneer in entertainment and media, Daisy Fuentes was MTV’s first Latina (and fully bilingual) VJ, host of several entertainment and music shows and courted by fashion and beauty companies to be their spokesperson. Fuentes positioned herself as a trendsetter and redefined mainstream ideas of beauty style, injecting her culture and identity as a Cuban American and Latina into her work. Fuentes also actively champions many important causes, including breast cancer awareness and children’s health charities.

Ricardo Montalban Award for Lifetime Achievement: CHARO
Recognized the world over by her trademark expression, “cuchi-cuchi,” Charo took America by storm, dazzling audiences with her virtuoso guitar playing and making them laugh with her famous accent and bubbly personality. As a media personality, she appeared on many hit television shows, including “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson,” “Sonny and Cher” and “The Carol Burnett Show,” and had more guest appearances on the long-running comedy “The Love Boat” than any other star. As a humanitarian, activist and entertainer, Charo demonstrates an ability to effect change for causes that touch the hearts of millions.

ALMA’s 15/Los Quince
New members of ALMA’s 15 have been confirmed, including: Jorge Gutierrez (Director, “Book of Life”), Jessica Carrillo (Telemundo, “Al Rojo Vivo”) and Christian Acosta (Latinogossip.com).

With programming on multiple platforms, the “mun2 All Access: Road to the ALMAs 2014 Special,” featuring exclusive celebrity interviews, kicks off the ALMAs at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST. Telemundo.com will livestream the NCLR ALMA Awards Pre-Show with additional Telemundo.com live digital coverage at 9 p.m. EST/6 p.m. PST. The awards show and post-show will stream live on MSNBC.

The special will be produced by Flavio Morales, Sergio Alfaro and John Ehrhard, executive producers of Latino-led Big Vida Entertainment. Also serving as executive producers are Longoria and NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguía. Kelly Brock serves as producer.

Advertising sponsors for this year’s show include Comcast, Chevrolet, ConAgra Foods, McDonald’s, Prudential, State Farm and Wells Fargo. Target returns as the Red Carpet Sponsor. Encore presentations of the “2014 NCLR ALMA Awards” will air throughout Hispanic Heritage Month on mun2, and exclusive content will be available for Comcast On Demand and on Telemundo.com/ALMA.
